Our Programs
Literacy, Arts, and Community in Action
LitiArts creates experiences that meet young people where they are, whether in a school, a library, a community organization, or online. Through these partnerships, our programs bring together expansive literacies, creative expression, mentorship, and opportunities for collaborative learning.
We design our programs around young people's identities and experiences, as well as the interests of the schools and organizations we partner with, so no two programs look exactly the same. Whether gathering around a book or developing artwork for publication and archival, young people bring what they know and leave with something new.
Literacy-Art Workshops
Guided by teaching artists and literacy specialists, our flagship literacy-art workshops bring young people together to explore themes connected to their lives and communities through discussion and multimodal art forms, spanning visual, language, and performing arts.
The Identity Journal is our youth-centered digital publication. Young writers join cohorts where they build community, learn from one another, strengthen their writing, and publish original work for a broader audience.
Through poetry, essays, and stories, young writers explore the ideas and experiences that matter to them while developing their writing and building experience as published creators.
IN PROGRESS
Community Voices Archive
The Community Voices Archive lives beyond traditional institutions, serving as a lasting digital home for the everyday stories, creative work, languages, and experiences of young people and their communities. Youth collaborate with graduate students, learning archival practices alongside emerging librarians who are building their own professional skills.
The Community Voices Archive is actively growing. Follow our work and be among the first to know when the collection opens.
The Community Voices Archive has been developed alongside graduate student collaborators from the University of Washington Information School.
