Become a Virtual College Prep Mentor
What Mentors Do:
Our After-School Virtual College Preparation Fellowship Program Uses a More-Than-Academic Approach. Our curricula combines mentorship, identity-affirming activities, and community gatherings to sustain students' identities and wellbeing before, during, and after college. As a mentor, you'll support a high school junior or senior in 3 ways.
1:1 Mentorship
- Meet with your mentee biweekly to help them explore and set their educational goals, create your list of college/universities, write and revise their personal statements, seek out academic resources, and prepare any other application documents.
Identity-Affirming Activities
- During the bi-weekly meetings, you'll also help to build your mentee's confidence, affirm their identity and lived experiences through through identity-affirming activities. These activities are designed to give our program participants the space to address racial, cultural, and socioeconomic tensions related to the college preparation and transition process.
Transitional Support
- You'll work closely with your mentee to provide them with resources, advices, and tips to help them transition from high school student to college student.
